The Situation
At Newsweek, Chief Technology Officer Len Carella's organization manages the hundreds of desktops, laptops, and servers at news bureaus and offices worldwide. When his organization outgrew its existing systems management tools, Len's team began searching for a new solution that would scale to the level of the current organization as well as accommodate future growth. More importantly, Len wanted a solution that could be implemented with little downtime or user training. Dynamic organizations such as Newsweek cannot tolerate lengthy systems downtime, especially for the installation and deployment of new software. Newsweek required all of the critical components for systems management, and all of these components had to be deployed with minimal intrusion into the existing infrastructure. Furthermore, they needed a solution that satisfied their immediate needs yet offered the flexibility to add solutions at a later time without substantial interruption to the systems. Len's team considered traditional systems management software but concluded that the implementation time would be too long and the deployment would be too intrusive. Newsweek discovered that the way to achieve these complex goals was simple: they adopted and deployed the TriActive solutions.
The Result
By choosing TriActive, Newsweek achieved their systems management goals. According to Len, "we were very keen on getting full infrastructure coverage almost instantaneously. The TriActive hosted solution got us up and running within days." Newsweek rolled out the TriActive Desktop Management suite, which includes Help Desk, Asset Inventory, and Remote Tools. In just a few days, Len's team was effectively managing the company's infrastructure with TriActive.
Len was especially impressed with the implementation process of the TriActive solutions and how they compared with previous deployments of systems management software. "We did not have to install any software, and we have no software to maintain. TriActive promised us a solution that worked immediately, and that's what we got, without any of the hassles of typical software installations." Finally, Len rests assured that as the Newsweek organization evolves, his team can subscribe to additional TriActive solutions on demand without complex installations.
