Example 1

The following example indicates the points at which a notification will be sent. This example uses the following alert notification options:

The alert status begins at Clear.

  1. No - The alert status changes from Clear to Minor; no notification is sent.
  2. Yes - The alert status changes from Minor to Major; an e-mail notification is sent to the specified specialist and a problem ticket is opened.
  3. Yes - The alert status changes from Major to Critical; another e-mail notification is sent and an alert message is added to the existing problem ticket.
  4. Yes - The alert status changes from Critical to Major; because the alert status is still at or above Major, an e-mail notification is sent and an alert message is added to the existing problem ticket.
  5. No - The alert status does not change; no notification is sent and nothing is added to the existing problem ticket.
  6. Yes - The alert status changes from Major to Minor; an e-mail notification is sent and, because the Close below Threshold option was chosen, the existing problem ticket is closed.
  7. Yes - The alert status changes from Minor to Clear; because the Notify on Clear option was chosen, an e-mail notification is sent, but because the problem ticket is already closed, no changes are made to it.
  8. Yes - The alert status changes from Clear to Major; an e-mail notification is sent and, because the Reuse Problem Ticket option was chosen, the existing problem ticket is reopened and the alert message is added to it.

Example 2

The following example indicates the points at which a notification will be sent. This example uses the following alert notification options:

The alert status never reaches the severity threshold. Therefore, no e-mail notification is ever sent and no problem ticket is opened.

Example 3

The following example indicates the points at which a notification will be sent. This example uses the Send e-mail notification and Open Problem Ticket options, but none of the additional problem ticket options are used.

  6. No - The alert status changes from Major to Minor; because the notify below Threshold is not selected, no notification is sent, but an alert message is sent to the existing problem ticket.
  7. No - The alert status changes from Minor to Clear; because the Notify on Clear option is not selected, no e-mail notification is sent and because the Close on Clear option is not selected, the existing problem ticket remains open.

Example 4

The following example indicates the points at which a notification will be sent. This example uses the following alert notification options:

The alert status begins at Clear.

  1. No - The alert status changes from Clear to Minor; because the alert status is below the severity threshold, no notification is sent and no problem ticket is opened.
  2. Yes - The alert status changes from Minor to Major; an e-mail notification is sent and a problem ticket is created.
  6. Yes - The alert status changes from Major to Minor; an e-mail notification is sent, the alert message is added to the existing problem ticket, and because the Close below Threshold option was selected, the problem ticket is closed.
  7. Yes - The alert status changes from Minor to Major; an e-mail notification is sent and because the Close below Threshold option was selected and the previous problem ticket was already closed, a new problem ticket is opened.
